The Space Between Us is a piece created using painting knives. It’s an exploration of thick strokes, bold colours, layering, and no blending. I wanted to work with texture and every mark is a little bit wild.
The painting captures the moment right before a kiss. It’s the split second where everything feels suspended, almost like being in deep space. The two lovers are drawn by gravity, drifting close, feeling the tug of their paths aligning.
The title plays on the dual meaning of “space”. There’s the cosmic sense, where the universe seems to guide destined things together, and the literal physical space that narrows between them. As they lean in, that gravitational force intensifies. This piece is all about the charged stillness right before connection, which is the very essence of The Space Between Us.
